Norma is an independent senior citizen. “I want to eat when I want to and go to bed when I want to. I’m a night owl,” the 90-year-old said.
Norma lives at home, with the assistance of an array of helpers and visitors that her adult children have helped her accumulate. With a cleaning lady, a support worker for personal care, nieces who keep a monthly lunch date, and a Lunch Club she attends, Norma keeps everyone’s schedule sharply organized in her mind, and is grateful that, “All fell into place as I needed something.”
Not everyone can hope to age with this sort of serendipity, but a growing healthcare service aims to help all seniors age with such grace.
Guardian Network is a private care at home organization that offers supportive home care to seniors striving to continue living in their own homes. Catering to individual needs, their services include cooking, grocery shopping, transportation, reminding a client to take medication, bathing, and more. They service residents in Melbourne with its headquarters in Kew East.
According to the Managing Director of Guardian Network, Sandra Saxby “Home is where all their memories are, they have relationships in their neighborhoods, pride in the home they’ve built over the years,” She says that Guardian Network “provides help with the little things around the house that we take for granted until we can’t do them anymore.”
